A family deity for the Kinhaikar Kulkarnis of Aundh, a princely state under the Maratha Chhatrapatis, this temple has been constantly venerated for the past 269 years, acquiring a unique distinction of a social and religious space; associated to mythology and spiritual faith; further enriched by its architecture, sculpture, painting and iconography and a venue for several annual festivals reliving the past.
The project directors and financers, the Kulkarnis made efforts for the development of the overall Temple Complex to ensure protection of the inappropriately used property and appreciation for its beauty as well as an offering for Yamai Devi’s blessings and due to the complexities in its architecture, a comprehensive plan was made by specialized experts ‘Kimaya’ to revive the temple to its original form and prevent it from insensitive restoration, hence revitalising the pride of the other worshippers coming to the complex.
